It’s great to be able to move yourself. You have the freedom of moving when you want to move and how long you want to take do the job. What many people do not know is that there is a right way and a wrong way to pack the truck.
Some think that all they have to do is pack and load the boxes then load the furniture and the job is done. This is the wrong way to load the truck. To get the most use out of the space on the truck and make your job much easier load the truck in a systematic pattern.
The best way to start out is by first loading all the large pieces of furniture. This would include the couch and other equally large pieces. Be sure to take off all couch pillows and load the in the nose of the truck. They can also be used as padding for glass tables or other pieces of furniture that can easily become scratched, cracked or broken. If you have a lot of toss pillows and large floor vases, you can use the toss pillows to protect the vases during transit. Any loose pillows you have from chairs or other pieces of furniture are also great for protection also.
Next comes the smaller pieces of furniture. If the pieces are small enough they can be stacked on the larger pieces of furniture. For example, if you have various sizes of coffee or end tables try placing them on top of the couches and chairs. Add a few loose pillows for protection and you’re ready to go.
Now is the time to start loading boxes. Start with first loading the larger boxes. Next, load the smaller boxes. This is where you use up as much of the small spaces as possible. Start at the nose of the truck and place small boxes in spaces. There is a two fold reason for this. Not only are you saving space but placing all the small boxes in unused space makes for tight packing. This way nothing shifts as you are driving.
Many moving centers have videos and tutorials on how to pack and load the truck for maximum space. When you visit your local moving center be sure to ask if they have pamphlets or tutorials available.
For listings of all the moving centers in your local area, all you need to do is search online. Before you start calling around have a date in mind that you want to move. What trucks are available depends on when you want to move. There are certain times of the year that are considered moving season, which is usually during the spring, and summer months. During these times, the size truck that you want may not be available.
Also, be sure to get the rental prices including all charges for the truck and any moving accessories you may need. If you need packing materials be sure to get both packing peanuts and bubble wrap.
